Position: Special Education Teacher
Rate: Up to $60/hour
Reports To: Director of Special Education
The Teacher is responsible for providing direction, assistance, foresight, and intervention for every student in their classroom. The Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, social, physical, spiritual, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success.

This position will require approximately 37.50 hours per week for 10 months.

Under the supervision of the teacher, the Dean of Academics, and the Dean of Students, the Teacher will:
- Be knowledgeable in academic areas, learning theories, and teaching strategies
- Have training in classroom management and discipline
- Have a positive attitude and growth mindset
- Develop a scope and sequence within the first two weeks of school
- Work hand in hand with the special education department
- Be able to display lesson plans daily
- Attend PLC meetings as scheduled
- Demonstrate effective identification, planning, and utilization of community resources consistent with the objectives of the class
- Begin instruction promptly at 8:00 am
- Works closely with immediate colleagues within the department as a team when planning the academic program
- Plans and implements a program of academic studies for which the individual is employed
- Handling materials in an orderly fashion, ensuring that equipment and materials needed for the activity are readily available and that resources used are appropriate to the activity; providing proper care and use of equipment
- Effectively communicates with parents, relating information of relevance and meaning
- Possesses experience in technology-based instruction and analyzes data to make informed decisions about students’ instructional needs
- Actively participates in the DTGSS process
- Having objectives and plans for the day that are communicated with students, following lesson plans based on the school's official curriculum or the Delaware Content Standards.
- Presenting a strong professional image through manner, voice, and appearance
- Creating an atmosphere in which mutual respect is evident;
- Routinely checking for each student's level of understanding of essential information during instruction and before moving on
- Provide opportunities for students to use or apply what they are learning while the teacher is available to assist
- Relating learning activities to student interests; offering varied learning activities; and making involvement a part of the learning process
- Providing consistent and immediate feedback to students
- Praising students for appropriate classroom behavior; letting students know when they are making progress; varying praise words
- Completes all responsibilities such as volunteer hours, Board of Directors meetings, parent-teacher conferences, PLC attendance, PD attendance, and PTO meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year accredited educational institution in education or related field
- Master’s Degree in Education or related field preferred
- Delaware State Initial or Continuing License (uploaded and approved in DEEDS)
- Dual Certification preferred
- 2+ Year’s experience preferred
